Monsoon: Expectations vs. Reality

Monsoon, the most filmy season ever is here to grace us and relieve us from the scorching heat. From ‘Dum dum deega deega mausam bheega bheega’ to Rimjhim gire saawan to Barso re Megha Meghaor Yeh mausam ki baarish, Bollywood has left no stone unturned to paint monsoon as the most pleasant, romantic and awaited weather. However, the larger than life Bollywood is far from reality. Let’s dig deeper!!!

Long Drives
Just like our Bollywood movies, we have always dreamt of going on a long drive in the breezy rainy season. A long drive with your partner and romantic songs like ‘Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein’ in the background, stopping by local street hawkers for ‘pakora – chai ’sounds like an ideal deal. However, let’s spare a moment and think of reality. We all know monsoon and unprecedented traffic go hand in hand in India.
So, sorry darling, that long drive isn’t happening!!

Rain Dance
Oh yes!! We all remember Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit shaking their leg with kids in ‘Chak Dhoom Dhoom.’ It was liberating to see them dance at their peak energy levels and making rains look fun! Who doesn’t want a filmy moment like that in real life? Alas, it’s difficult to dance while being drenched in water covered up to our legs. Water logged streets refrain us from creating that filmy moment!

Mystical Weather
Remember Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor’s iconic kiss under the jacket in the magical Mumbai rains? Well that’s not what monsoon in real world looks like. Monsoon is about seepage, leakage and paint peeling off. It is also about sweeping the floor multiple times a day, thanks to muddy footprints left by our footwear. So people, monsoon calls for lot of sweeping and repairing and not just romance!!!!

Energy Level
We have all been crushing over Aishwarya Rai’s energetic and dazzling dance to welcome the rainy season in ‘Barso re Megha Megha..’ Now let’s compare that to our energy levels during the monsoon. The soothing rain and the subsequent breeze, makes it an awesome weather to eat Pakoras , sleep and repeat!  After all, monsoon is the official season to laze around.

Pakoda Party
When it rains, first thing that comes in our minds are ‘Pakodas.’ However, what we fail to understand is that Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif can afford to eat the pakoras guilt-free with that physique in the rain in ‘Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani’ whereas we can’t do that without counting the excess calories intake. Some things look good only on the big screen!!
